WORKHOPS IN OPERANT CONDIONTING

– The first and original –

Training animals is a mechanical skill. To become a better animal trainer, one has to focus on the basics and practice, practice, practice. In the workshops we concentrate on supporting the right mindset of the trainers to become more proficient at their chosen skills and hone their timing and mechanical skills.

Chickens are ruthless to train. They are simple animals who change their behavior quickly. This actually makes them easier to train then dogs. The chicken progresses quickly, but any mistakes that the trainer makes in the timing or methods, is mirrored by the chicken with undesired behavior. This makes chickens perfect in honing the mechanical skills, timing, rewarding density and placement of the reward as well as teaching the trainer to discover how his/her own movements and gestures (conscious and unconscious ones) correspond to the timeline of teaching a behavior.

The workshops alternate between training theory and actually working with the chickens. The theory of operant conditioning is discussed in depth and practically. This course gives you as a trainer the skills to train any kind of animal and is equally suitable for everyone from an enthusiast to a professional working with animals. You do not need any prior knowledge to take part in this workshop.

You must complete this set of workshops in order and to progress to the next workshop requires you to complete the workshop prior to it. You can also replace one of these workshops with a similar one held by Bob Bailey or Marie Fogelquist, or if you have attended one of Tommy’s prior workshops on the topic.
